The Circular FoodShift team warmly invites field experts, professionals, teachers and representatives from municipalities to the School Food Forum on May 13 and 14 in Daugavpils. The two-day event features an engaging agenda filled with panel discussions, workshops, and talks focused on two key themes: food education in schools for food waste reduction and prevention; and dynamic and green food procurement.

The first day of the forum, May 13, will be dedicated to the issues of food education and reduction of food waste in schools. The forum will be opened by the Finnish Ambassador to Latvia, H.E. Anne Saloranta. Opening speeches will also be delivered by industry experts from Latvia and Estonia, highlighting directions for the development of school food systems. Participants will learn about the European Commission’s food education policy, Latvia’s experience in transforming the catering system, and the regional initiative “From Farm to School”.

Moreover, there will be an opportunity to learn about the circular economy approach to food in schools and gain insights from Finland, Estonia, and Sweden on reducing food waste and involving communities. The first day will conclude with a visit to a preschool institution in Daugavpils.

On the second day, May 14, the focus will shift to public food procurement – addressing both policy and regulatory aspects, as well as practical solutions for sustainable food procurement. Discussions will include short food supply chains, the involvement of small farmers, and various dynamic procurement approaches in Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Sweden. During a panel discussion and afternoon workshop, joint solutions will be explored to develop a unified, sustainable procurement system in the Baltic Sea region.

Registration is open until May 5. Click here to register.
